Training
Rhylyn Medical Services is a Royal Australian College of General Practitioners accredited training post. We supervise and mentor newly graduated doctors (registrars and registered medical officers) while they are gaining general practice experience. This is Rhylyn’s contribution to ensuring that the future generation of GPs is well-grounded and accomplished.
Registrars are generally with Rhylyn for a 6 month rotation, while registered medical officers work a 13 week rotation. Occasionally a registrar’s rotation will be extended for a further 6 months. By rotating through different practices, occasionally including a term in the country, registrars are able to determine where their future careers lie.
Rhys Henning regularly hosts registrars who wish to gain advanced knowledge in pain management and dependence. This allows doctors to experience first hand the challenges and rewards of working in this specialised field.
We welcome the opportunity to assist you in your professional development. Registrars interested in placement at Aldinga Medical Centre should contact Sturt Fleurieu who facilitate these placements.
We also host 3rd year medical students from Flinders University through the Onkaparinga Clinical Education Programme (OCEP). Students are generally with us for a 6 month rotation. By experiencing general practice, the student gains a wider view of medical conditions and develops an appreciation of the complexity of general practice.
Careers
Rhylyn Medical Services has three surgeries located in the outer southern metropolitan area of Adelaide. Aldinga Medical Centre is located in the heart of Aldinga Beach with the diverse Aldinga scrub and beautiful coastlines close by. Moore Street Clinic at Willunga is set amongst the rolling hills of the wineries and vineyards of the area, not far from the fresh produce markets and local bakery. Moana Medical Centre is located close to the breathtaking Moana Beach.
We offer a family friendly, supportive work environment where we respect work life balance. All of our surgeries are fully computerised, well equipped and accredited. Our supportive administrative and nursing staff are dedicated to assisting wherever possible. This includes preparing care plans, assisting with typing complicated reports, helping to understand the intricacies of the Medicare system and recall and reminder systems. As many of our doctors have been part of our team for more than 10 years, there is much collegial support amongst them and they are happy to offer any assistance required.
Within the practice we have a specialist in addiction & pain medicine. We also have GPs with keen interests in acupuncture, skin cancers, counselling, tropical medicine and diabetes. We also have a dedicated mental health nurse. We manage chronic disease, women’s health, men’s health, sports medicine, occupational medicine, insurance and pre-employment medicals, as well as the usual general practice activities. Where a doctor has a particular interest, we encourage them to share and develop that interest. As we are a teaching practice, there are opportunities for doctors interested to pursue teaching medical students, interns and registrars. Strong relationships with local nursing homes and hospitals are already established, if this is an area of interest. After hours is available. Doctors interested in working in one of our practices located in the Southern Vales region close to the beach and wine district should contact Linda Crawford. 08 8550 2000
